Quit Smoking - 4 Quick Tips That Work

Expert Author Drew Charleson

If you have already tried to quit smoking you will know how difficult it can be. The truth is that different methods work differently for different people. The quit smoking method that works for you will depend on your personality, your resolve and your circumstances and it is a lot harder for some people to break the habit than for others. So if you're finding quitting difficult don't beat yourself up about it. Just follow these four quick tips and success will come.

1. Never give up.

You should be aware when you start the quit smoking process that it can be challenging and that everyone is human. Remember that quitting is possible, and that every year millions of people take that step and succeed in beating nicotine.

2. Reward your success

Thinking in a positive way is much more beneficial than reminding yourself how much you miss cigarettes. Setting yourself daily achievable goals and scheduling rewards for even tiny successes will help towards the larger goal of never smoking again.

3. Get physical

Go for a walk! There are some quit smoking methods which involve deep breathing exercises, and it has been proven that taking deep breaths can alleviate some nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Going for a walk not only fills your lungs with beneficial oxygen, it also distracts you from the thought of smoking. If you are young and energetic, (or even just young at heart) take up some kind of sport. Golf is ideal, or how about just bouncing a basketball around for a few minutes.

4. Find support

Finding a group of like minded individuals with whom you can discuss your quit smoking problems will help to overcome the cravings that you feel. It will also give you a smoke free and supportive environment in which to interact socially. One of the most difficult things for any quitter is to go back to those social situations where his or her smoking and drinking are very much the way of life.

Successful quitting begins with changing your mind about smoking. Do all the research you can about the benefits of quitting and the harm that smoking does to your body and your mind. Prepare yourself with knowledge and with belief and commit to the decision never to smoke again. You'll be glad you did!
