One common trait amongst smokers is that they all have a set of triggers which cause them to light up a cigarette. Understanding these triggers is critical in order to quit smoking for life.
In order to quit smoking it is important that you clearly identify all of your triggers. Your triggers are all those rituals you have created around smoking. All those little connections you have between your life habits and cigarettes.
When you get in your car, and you light up. Cars don't make people smoke it's just a ritual which has become a habit. A relaxing coffee or tea and a smoke. How about a beer or rum and coke and a smoke.
Lighting up at the end of a meal. Dating back to a time when the men would retire for port and cigars.
In the Edwardian era when the suffragette women would gather in the vegetarian restaurants of London and smoke, which was a way to express their freedom.
The phone rings and it's a friend. You reach for a cigarette, here is another popular ritual. How about the classic moment, of lighting up after a romantic encounter! This was a popular scene in many 60's and 70's movies.
What are your triggers? Those I've listed are quite common. But it's very important to identify those which may be unique to you. The more unusual the better, because these may be the ones which are most important to identify if you wish to quit smoking successfully.
The reason that identifying your triggers is so important is that your triggers become your habits. These habits become entrenched, and this is one of the big problems in quitting smoking. After the effect of nicotine is long removed from your system it's the habits which may be the most difficult to shake.
It is the memory of these triggers which can foil an ex smoker 10 or 20 years in the future. For some reason they find themselves in a situation where the smoking habit memory is triggered. They rationalise by saying it was just one cigarette.
Of course any smoker who has quit and restarted will tell you that there is rarely such a thing, as just one smoke!
During an advanced hypnosis session your triggers will be weaved into the structure of the dialogue. By personalising the process it's another way we can be extremely confident that you will quit in just 60 minutes.
Most will never re-experience the need to smoke but some will always need to be be wary of being tricked into smoking again.
