Questions For Your Blog Manager

Expert Author Jane Van Velsen

I'm struggling. Help me understand what I'm seeing.

I keep reading bloggers blogs in the hope that I'll find someone who is able to blog for my clients but I'm fast realising that whilst people can write, they don't know enough about blogging to understand how it works in the overall online strategy.

A good blog is the hub of all online activity providing 'landing pages' for information that you want your readers to access. Ergo, it needs to be marketed!

What on earth is the point of publishing a post without thinking about how people will find it or what they'll do with it when they have found it?

A decent blogger will know that the first thing you put into a post is a 'retweet' tool.

A talented blogger will understand that sharing is of great importance and those buttons need to be right in there too!

A blogger worth their salt will understand about data segmentation and stat analysis and apply the results of each to determine where to take that blog to gain the maximum market penetration for the brand/product.

Does your blog manager turn every post into a back linked article or press release to drive ever more traffic to your blog? Do they insert links to previous articles to increase online 'stickiness'? Do they embed hyperlinks to your website behind all the visuals?

Has your blog manager registered your blog with the blogging catalogues online to ensure that it receives search engine traffic?

Does your blog manager understand that your blog needs to be optimised through registration with the relevant search engine webmaster tools? If they don't, how will a search engine find your blog? It's not strictly true that if you write the content they will come, you still need to follow the process to ensure that you're found if looked for.

Social media tools are the wheels that are driven by the blog but they also ensure that the hub i.e. the blog, is driven in return. Does your blog link automatically to Twitter and post across each social media tool as you post?

Does your blog manager scour the internet for you for content that creates 3rd party affiliation and co-authorship ensuring refreshing content on your topic with a different voice?

Ask your blog designer/manager/writer some of these questions and then, when they've answered no to a few, call me.
