Public speaking skills are essential in many of today's professions. Sales people, teachers, and countless other careers depend on the art of public speaking as an element in finding success. There is no shortage of public speaking courses teaching aspiring speakers how to shape their skills. Public speaking training is often focused on basic communication skills such as voice projection, and eye contact. Many of these courses also discuss the finer points of PowerPoint design and other slide content related subjects.

When it comes to creating effective presentations, the audiovisual elements can play a huge role in the outcome. Most presenters these days incorporate PowerPoint slides, or some other audiovisual related element into their presentation. But beyond that, most don't think much about other ways to use audiovisual media to enhance the impact upon the audience. No matter what size you're doing, you can use audiovisual techniques to help put together one amazing presentation.

Being prepared by knowing the basic principles of common audiovisual equipment can also allow you to avoid embarrassment. Not all public speakers know proper microphone technique, or how to embed a video into their PowerPoint. I've seen many speakers wearing a lapel microphone walk in front of the audio speakers and cause deafening feedback. A speaker may not know that the loud feedback is cause by having a microphone directly in front of an audio speaker. This important rules can help when trying to put forth a professional image.

By taking the time to learn this important principles in public speaking, a speaker doing his or her very first presentation can look like a veteran.
