Prostate Massage and Other Ways to Help Prevent Prostate Disease

It’s never too early for any man to start thinking about the health of his prostate. Although prostate dysfunction is more likely to afflict men in their 50s and older, even younger men can have prostate trouble, especially if it runs in the family. Poor dietary habits are strongly linked to prostate dysfunction as well. To reduce the risk of prostate enlargement or prostate cancer, you should start looking into various preventative methods.

One effective method is called milking the prostate. Also known as prostate massage, it is a technique of stimulating the prostate gland by hand or implement, usually making it ejaculate seminal fluid. The method can be performed by someone inserting a hand in your rectum and gently massaging the prostate. Aside form its therapeutic benefits, milking the prostate is also a means for achieving sexual arousal in men. However, this method is not recommended for men who already have a prostate condition, as the massage risks spreading a prostate infection to other regions of the body.

If you decide to try prostate milking, here’s how to do it. First, ask your partner to trim her nails, and wear a latex glove dabbed with a bit of water-based lube. Then, she should insert her fingers into your anus and feel upwards, toward your navel. She should feel the prostate gland as a small, round bulb about the size of a large walnut. When it is in her reach, she should massage it by gently rubbing her fingers on its sides, avoiding the sensitive center where nerves are located. The massage may cause you to ejaculate and become sexually stimulated. However, ejaculation does not always occur, and you should not be concerned if nothing happens.

Another way to prevent prostate disease is through diet. First of all, you have to decrease saturated fat consumption, as it is thought to increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. Then, add a lot of lycopene to your diet. Lycopene is an antioxidant that is responsible for the reddish hue of tomatoes. It is present in tomatoes, obviously, and tomato-based products including sauces, soups, pastes, and ketchup. Guavas, watermelon and pink grapefruit are also foods rich in lycopene. Vitamin D and E supplements can also be beneficial.

Natural herbs may also provide preventative and therapeutic benefits against prostate disease. Many herbal remedies have saw palmetto as an ingredient, as it is thought to be able to reduce prostate swelling and relieve symptoms. However, you should note that a clinical study published in 2006 has cast doubt on the effectiveness of saw palmetto that had been demonstrated in previous trials. However, the natural remedy pygeum bark extract has been clinically shown to be effective at reducing symptoms.
