Pros and Cons of Silicone Implants Used in Breast Augmentation
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

There are many reasons why women consider going under the knife to increase their bust size: decrease in your cup size due to pregnancy or weight loss, genes that stop your breast from growing more than 'A' cups, to give a kick to your career etc. Whatever the reason, Surgical Breast Augmentation can fix any problem related to your twin assets.

Breasts are an important part of a woman's body that determines their appearance and represents their womanhood. Fuller, round and upright breasts are a dream possession for every woman. However, not all are blessed with a perfect pair of breasts. However, with the advent of breast augmentation surgery, it is possible for every woman to have bigger and proportionate breasts.

Earlier the procedure and post surgery results were uncomfortable and taxing for the patients. However, since 2006, the quality of both, procedure and implants, have increased considerably and the results too are great. Now, the patients are given two options: Silicon Breast Implants and Saline Breast implants.

Both implants have their own set of pros and cons. Understanding their advantages and disadvantages will help you take a better decision.

Pros and Cons of Silicone Breast Implants:

  1. Silicone implants are more natural in looks than saline implants, as silicon has a denser and softer feel.
  2. It stays in its place and does not slop around like saline implants.
  3. As silicone implants are denser they display lesser rippling effects post surgery.
  4. As these implants stay in their place, they give women wider choice for a larger bust line. This is highly beneficial for women who have less tissue count or for women who want their implants to be placed over their breasts muscles.
  5. There is one disadvantage of these implants. Since, the implants are pre-filled with silicon; they require larger incisions to be implanted. Whereas, saline implants are first inserted and then filled. Thus, they need smaller incisions and thus leave smaller scars.
  6. Earlier there were speculations that silicone implants caused connective tissue diseases like Lupus and also cancer. However, after an intensive research, study and tests these rumours were put to rest and the use of silicone implants were reinstated in 2006.
  7. The silicone implants leaks are harder to detect as they are not very much visible. Silicone when ruptures, the leak can go on being undetected for a long time. However, saline leaks are very much visible, as soon as they rupture they immediately deflate and the saline is absorbed in the body. This causes 'Capsular Contraction', that is thick internal scarring that forms around the implanted breast implants.
  8. If you decide to modifying the size of your breasts in the future. If you have silicone implants then you will have to go through the complete procedure once again and get new implants. Whereas, the saline implants can be filled with more liquid with a small incision.

Though these surgeries are considered harmless, still there are risks involved in any type of surgeries. Thus, ponder and take the best decision.
