Pros and Cons of Buying Used Restaurant Equipment
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Opening a restaurant involves huge costs. One of the expenses that will surely burn your pocket in this business is the equipment cost. This is one of the main reasons for why many people opt for used restaurant equipment. Everything ranging from stoves, gas, refrigerator, microwave to food service equipment and furniture- cost a lot.

Next, you can not ignore maintenance cost too. Everyday you are likely to come up with some or the other problem related to your equipment. For all these reasons many restaurant owners go in for second hand equipment. This way, they save a substantial amount on the initial set up.

But before you plan to buy used equipment for your restaurant business, you should look into both the pros and cons of this decision.

The first advantage of buying used equipment is obviously the money. You will save a lot of money which you can utilize in some other area of your restaurant.

Another interesting thing with used restaurant equipments is that if you are lucky you may find relatively new equipment as the used one. Because of high failure of restaurant business many people give up the business within a year or so. So before you buy any used equipment a little research about the restaurant selling the equipment would help a lot. In some cases you may even get warranties along the used equipment.

Also, it would be wise to enquire about the history of the equipment before purchasing. One should never purchase too old equipment pieces, as they may cost more on maintenance in the future.

When you go for buying something new it is very difficult to bargain. But when you buy used equipment you have the advantage of haggling. So people who are good in haggling are bound to get benefits.

Sometimes buying a lot of used equipment from one single place might tempt the seller to give you something like freebie prep table, toaster or a mixer.

As regards the drawbacks of used equipment, there is no guarantee for how long the appliances will work. It might work for one day or one year. It all depends on your luck. So a lot of gamble is done when you buy used restaurant equipment.

Another problem with used equipment is maintenance. Often it is seen that people buy used equipment at a low rate but spend so much on the repair that when they add the total amount spent over a particular equipment that comes out to be much more than a new one.

So, as every coin has two sides, you should look into both the pros and cons of buying used restaurant equipment.
