When it comes to home repairs on the floors, one of the biggest things that people are leaning towards is laminate wood flooring. In fact, not only is it a new alternative in flooring options but it also resembles natural hardwood floors! In recent years, the quality of the materials used has increased as well as they have become more durable. In many homes it has become difficult to tell which is real and which flooring are laminate wood floors.

Once you have made the decision of having laminate wood floors, you will then have to choose which style and color best works for you and your home. In fact, there are styles that look identical to natural wood flooring or there are ceramic tiles as well. As for the colors of wood flooring, they are available from a light tone to a very dark tone. When choosing a color you will want to keep in mind the room as well as the plans for it!

If you are looking to purchase laminate flooring, you will be able to find it at almost any home improvement center, flooring store, or even on the internet. The biggest thing is finding the best deal. If you have a small room, you may get away with purchasing remnants; as they may be more affordable.

For many people, learning how to install laminate flooring can be very difficult; however, it is quite simple. In fact, laminate flooring is not at all attached to the floor; they are actually known as floating floors. Laminate flooring has a tongue and groove design; which is when there are slats attached by sliding the tongue into the groove. They are then held together with a special adhesive.

When laying the laminate flooring down, they can be put over just about anything; however, you will need to remove any old carpet and pads. Once the carpet is gone, you will want to make sure the floor is level.

If you are uncertain about installing the laminate yourself, you can also hire a professional to do the installation, as well. Either way, installation is a very simple job that shouldn't take too long. However, if you hire a professional you will be looking at a much larger bill; which may be worth it to some people!

Once the laminate floor is installed, all you have to worry about is taking care of it; which can also be very simple. In most cases all you have to do is follow all the instructions. Other than cleaning it as you would any other floor, the only thing you need to know is that it won't need any wax.

When washing it, you will want to make sure you don't use a lot of water; as it could damage the coating of the laminate as well as the paper backing. If moisture builds up, it could cause a mold problem, as well. Therefore, you will not want to put this flooring in your bathroom!
