Profiting From the Midsummer Fair in World of Warcraft

Expert Author Thomas Urban

The Midsummer fire festival is upon us and I've had to push all my other articles back to fit this one. I wasn't expecting to make any gold from this monthly event as when I first looked at it I couldn't find anything to sell for profit during it. However I was then told by a friend that the bonfire honour/desecration quests grant a decent amount of reward gold (and exp if you're under 80).

As alliance I am able to honour 40 flames for 6g63 each (total of 265g20s) and desecrate 38 filthy horde bonfires for 13g23s each (total of 502g74s) Giving a grand total of 767g94s if you were to do them all.

I timed myself for two hours starting at Ironforge, heading south to Stranglethorn vale checking each bonfire along the way and then flying back up and doing all the bonfires north of the Dwarf capital. Coincidently it took me exactly the two hours to visit every bonfire in the eastern kingdoms and netted me a total of 266g31s (This included doing a bit of juggling in Ironforge at the start) which results in an hourly earning rate of 133g15s.

This low hourly earning rate does however come with 3 rather large "buts"

1 - I also earned 191 burning blossoms along the way which will help me buy a new pet
2 - I did not take the most optimal route at all. If a guide were made to reaching these bonfires as fast as possible using hearthstones and flight paths I'm sure the hourly rate could be doubled with ease.
3 - Next year if the event is run in a similar fashion you will be able to fly directly to each bonfire as the Cataclysm expansion will have been out for a while and allowed flying mounts in the old school kingdoms. This will save loads of time by not having to follow the bat-shit insane flight paths that the game currently has.
