If you have been a golf enthusiast for quite some time, and perhaps even played in amateur or professional golf tournaments, then you may already know that there are strict rules and regulations on the use of golf equipment during tournaments that all players need to adhere to. Players who sign up to join a golf event have to make sure that their equipment meet specifications set by the organizing committee. Many may not know it, but there are few types of pro golf clubs and balls that can be used in tournaments. Using any type of golf equipment that do no meet standard specifications may be a ground for penalization, or worse, temporary ban from a tournament.
The term pro golf clubs not only refer to golf equipment, but to golf courses as well. No golf committee has ever really set the standards on how to determine a professional club from one that is not. Many clubs all over the world, can claim to be professional golf clubs, so long as their place is ideal for a tournament to be held in.
The criteria for judging if a certain golf club is of professional caliber or not are different from the criteria used on clubs and balls. Most owners of golf courses, including country clubs and private and public courses, would want their places to be considered as pro golf clubs. In reality, there really is no official club as the game can be played in almost any course, provided that they offer the right grounds condition and amenities.
In a less stricter sense, a particular course can be called a pro golf club if players and fans alike have easy access to it. Just as important as the grounds condition and the amenities is the accessibility of the road that leads to the course.
As for the clubs you carry in your golf bag, not every club designed by or preferred by professionals are all pro golf clubs. Again, the standards vary according to the committee that organized that specific event.
