The first thing that you need to check is whether it's plugged in or not. Sometimes the cords come undone meaning that your printer won't be working because it has no power. The most common thing that happens is that the power strip gets turned off.
Is the printer turned on. Sometimes it's a simple issue about turning the printer on to get it to print. This is a huge mistake that is made by many that causes heartache that shouldn't be there. Check this.
Is there paper in the printer? This is something that at times goes overlooked. At times you might have paper in the printer but have a jam that is so deep that you can't see it. This will prevent the printer from working.
If nothing is working, you should be able to at least do a test print. This will show you that the printer itself does run regardless if it's communicating with your computer or not properly. If it does a test print, you know for a fact that the printer and computer are having communication issues. If so, update the driver.
Check your ink cartridges. Sometimes these are low and need to be purchased again to replace them. Other times they are full but they are not put into your printer properly. When this happens, you need to take them out and put them in again. This might be the reason that your printer doesn't work at all.
Do you see error messages on your printer. If you see these, look at your manual. This will tell you how to fix each one of these problems in detail so your printer will do what it is designed to do again.
