A new study completed in 2010 shows that K9 Advantix is remarkably effective at preventing Canine Vector Borne Disease or CVBD as it is commonly referred to as. The study was published in Veterinary Parasitology and is another feather in the cap of Bayer's excellent medications that prevent bites from ticks and sand flies.
The study was carried out by Prof. Domenico Otranto and his team at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Italy in conjunction with Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt at North Carolina State University. The results of the study found that Advantix reduced CVBD by more than ninety percent.
When compared to dogs that were left untreated, the control group in the experiment, treated dogs had a nearly ninety eight percent reduction in tick infestations. The study was carried out in an area where there is a very high number of ticks and sand flies. A full one hundred percent of the dogs that were left untreated were found to be infested by ticks during the peak season.
Prof. Otranto made special note of just how important it is to protect dogs with a treatment that repels and kills ticks and sand flies. He was very pleased that nearly all of the treated dogs remained tick free through most of the study and that CVBD's were not prevalent in ninety percent of the treated dogs.
Remember to always treat your dog during the warm months with Advantix. Also consider comparing Advantix vs Frontline to see which medication may be a better treatment option for your pet. And remember to never give Advantix to cats.
