While many women suffer pregnancy nausea, more commonly known as morning sickness, knowing you are not alone does not help you feel much better. The following are some tips for getting through morning sickness.
Tip one: Don't let your stomach get empty. Most women find that if they continually graze throughout the day, they manage their morning sickness far better. Eat smaller meals. When you overeat you cause your stomach to reject the food. In addition to feeling nauseated, it can also lead to heartburn. So, limit your food intake to smaller portions at a time, with more frequency.
Tip two: Usually if you go too long between meals, you will feel much sicker, and once you are sick, it can be hard to get back to feeling right. So, when you wake up in the morning, eat before you get out of bed and give your stomach a chance to settle a little before you get up and start on your way. Then remember to eat something every hour or so, even if it is just a light snack.
Tip three: Find natural nausea reducing foods: ginger, sprite, dry crackers, dry toast all work well to combat the already upset stomach, and help you fight off your nausea. Many women find that sipping sprite through the day, while nibbling on dry foods helps them stay relatively morning sickness free. Too much liquid can slosh around and upset your stomach. So, choose foods that are calming to the tummy.
Tip four: Eat bland foods. Potatoes, bananas, toast, oatmeal, etc. are all bland foods that can help you avoid morning sickness, or at least work your way through it without losing too much of what you eat. Spicy foods can upset your stomach, or leave you feeling queasy all day long.
Tip five: Eat what you crave. For many pregnant women the idea of food is upsetting, and so eating anything is difficult, as morning sickness results. So, if there is anything your body craves, eat it, even if it is pickles and ice cream. The reason being that generally if it sounds good, you won't throw it up. It may sound anything but appealing five minutes later, so fulfill the cravings when they happen.
Tip six: Avoid dairy products. If you have an upset stomach, they can make it worse, may curdle, and are really nasty when you throw them up, which can add more sickness to your already morning sick day. So, avoid them when possible, look for alternative sources of calcium when suffering from morning sickness.
Last, consider medication. A unisom and a vitamin b12 are a great combination for fighting off morning sickness, but can make you very drowsy. A doctor can prescribe medication to help you combat morning sickness, but again, some of the symptoms are drowsiness. So, use these as a last result.
