Powers of Vampires

The initial reference of supernormal powers of vampires is depicted in Bram Stokers Dracula. The power to take any body form by the vampires was first depicted in this novel where Dracula would take any shape like wolf or even become dust and fog. One more attribute of Vampires later used quite frequently and with ingenuity is that of being able to move faster than human and climb walls and sometimes fly. The Vampires with mystical powers is in fact common with any mythology where in the both the good and evil have super normal powers only that good puts it use to help the believer.

The vampires have been portrayed as evil with super normal power. And subsequently the good wins over the evil and each novel has in particular described how the nocturnal Vampires can be killed. Van Helsing suggests that in order to kill vampires a wooden is to be drove through the heart and in particular if the wood is oak wood then perhaps the effect are better. Also the vampires can be killed cutting the head from the body or can be burnt. The procedure of just removing the head is not sufficient rather an elaborate procedure is suggested in which after the head has been removed the mouth needs to be stuffed with garlic and holy water. The body needs to cut into four pieces and each piece burnt separately and the ash needs to e blown in to winds in four directions.  The head then can be buried in a ground.

In these novels vampires have been shown as nocturnal and they are harmed by sunlight. In most of these novels the protagonist vampires confines them in to indoors and in some cases the vampires will be killed by sunlight. The scene where count Dracula is burnt by sunlight has its influence on later works.
