While there is no definitive cause of anorexia nervosa, experts believe it is most likely a combination of factors involved when someone develops this disorder. Risk factors for developing anorexia also include a past history of under eating which may include infancy if there were feeding problems. Individuals who view themselves in a negative way as well as perfectionists are also considered to be at risk when it comes to developing anorexia.
Some people have the need for control and depriving themselves of food gives them that sense of control. There are also many cases i n which no definitive cause can be found, however, finding the cause is not essential when it comes to treating anorexia, and treatment can be done successfully by focusing on the present and learning the skills needed to develop healthy eating habits.
