When we were young, we have been told to do or think in a certain way for us to succeed. Thinking right and having discipline are just two ways to live a happy and fulfilled life. And we should thank those who have told us this because they are absolutely right.
We have all been through the same situation where in we assess ourselves, thinking where we are currently in our life and which direction we would want our life to go to. Then we decide we want to change something in us. Like our weight maybe, or letting go of our bad habits, or how we start our day perhaps. We think about how our personal life will progress once we start doing these changes. We then talk to family and friends about it because we get excited to start doing these changes.
However, after a few weeks or so, we become our old selves again. We don't watch what we eat, our bad habits starts to creep back in, and we start out day the way we usually did. And then we are back to the same routine that we were in before we decided to make those changes. This scenario is very common when we try to make resolutions for ourselves and then we fail to follow them. It's like a play where in everything from the casts, to the directors, and to the writers all come back.
And like all plays that obtain reviews, you will get opinions you would not like to hear. You may get demoralized, hurt or discouraged. And most of the time, it is a possibility that critic itself is you.
It is said that we are the only living creatures that talk to ourselves. Every hour of every day, we critique ourselves. Since this is unavoidable, you just need to make sure that the critique you are giving yourself is a positive one. For example, never look down on yourself when it comes to your physical appearance. You have to know what you don't like before you will know what you like. And once you've come to realize what you really like, this will give you the starters to move forward towards the direction where you want to be. Never be unhappy about yourself because without contrast and desire, there will be no change.
The sum total of the actions and thoughts that you've had in the past has brought you to where you are right at this moment in your life. So changing those thoughts and actions for the better will help propel you to move forward towards the direction of whatever it is you desire.
Just keep moving forward, enjoy life and appreciate what you are and what you have now.
