Portuguese Forestry - Portugal's Economic and Environmental Pride

Did you know that forests cover more land in Portugal than any other land form? Did you know that it covers more space than agriculture and farming can? As you can see, statistics wise, forests are about 38% in Portugal. With this fact in mind, Portuguese forestry is very huge contributor in its economy. Apart from garnering prestige due to the beauty of the country's lands, the Portuguese pride their selves in succeeding in the line of exporting forest products.  

Forest products in Portugal have helped establish the country's existence in world trade. They are actually one of the main manufacturers of commodities such as paper, corks, and at the same time, wood materials for furniture. Thanks to the preservation of these magnificent trees, small and medium; local and international businesses have boomed. Apart from creating forest products, several companies have been created which focus on the marketing, packaging and exporting of these goods to the global market. 

While it is true that forests are prevalent in Portuguese soil, various species of trees are also in being. Although this is true, there are actually only a number of tree breeds which are most abundant in the country. The most rampant tree kind is definitely the wild pine, which accounts for 31% of the trees in the forests. The next one is the cork oak trees, which are 23%, and the eucalyptus trees, which are 21%. 

Because of their great contribution to the economy and the lives of the citizens, great efforts to protect these forests are done by the government. As you can see, a percentage of the Portuguese forestry export business comes from cork exporting, which is the result of harvesting cork oak tree barks. Apart from this, these forests contribute to the beauty of the country. 

Therefore, when you find yourself there, you should admire of the greatness and convenience of Portugal forestry to the whole world.
