There are some pairs that seem to be made for each other for example politics and corruption, peanut butter and jelly and so on and the best one that suits this category is popcorn and movies. Popcorn movies are those that seem to be left incomplete without a barrel of popcorn. The history of popcorn movies goes back to the times when it didn't make such a difference if the person sitting next to you talked throughout the movie because that was the only best thing that you could listen to at that particular time.
Popcorn was first introduced into theatre halls in the mid 1920's with the invention of the patented popcorn manufacturing machine by Charles manley. Cinema hall owners understood that if they could combine the crunchy popcorn with the habit of watching movies, then the instead of being a nuisance this corn delight could help in increasing their profits. Soon popcorn became an integral part of the movie watching experience and the most boring of the movies became not so boring with popped corn around and so it became what was to be called popcorn movies.
There are some advantages linked with these popcorn movies:
• It increased the profit and the sales of the movie hall owners.
• It added a new dimension to the movie watching experience.
• It made the most flop movies of that particular time somewhat familiar because of this crunching habit.
The disadvantages linked with these popcorn movies are the following:
• Popcorn intake during movies increased to the harmful calorie intake of an individual in huge amounts.
• Most of the times these popcorn movies attract so much attention of the actual viewers that they forget to take an account of their health while consuming popcorn.
• It increased the mess in the theatres and is also a cause of distraction for the viewers in a cinema hall.
Of course these are some of the basic advantages and disadvantages linked with popcorn movies. One should know very well the priority while going to a theatre and popcorn must only be a way to pass time and not the main attraction of a cinema hall. The amount of money that a movie hall makes from selling popcorns alone is almost comparable with that earned through selling of tickets. Popcorn movies have gained more and more popularity since the time of its inception - however well all know a movie watching experience without popcorn is just an incomplete one.
