Plumbing Bathroom Fixtures - Water-Efficient Flush Technology

Over a period of 50 years, the amount of water that we have used in toilets has been reduced drastically. In the 1940s, a modern toilet would use 7 gallons of water for each flush. Since then, we have seen water usage go down. Today, we can now purchase a low-flow toilet that uses only 1.6 gallons of water per flush.

There are new rules that stipulate water per flush usage. The federal government mandates that every newly installed toilet must use no more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush. In response to this, bathroom fixture companies have introduced energy efficiency toilets with water-efficient flush technology. This is called high efficiency dual or single flush technology, and it is included in numerous water-efficient toilets. They are especially suited for reducing the costs of water usage, and are also wonderful if you are renovating an older bathroom or looking for a newer, more up-to-date toilet.

You may have also noticed that older toilets still use a ball-and-chain type of flush system. However, the newer flush technology uses something entirely different. It works by a pressure vessel or air chamber and it eliminates any plunger height or trip lever adjustments, which is more trouble-free for the installer.

In addition, the pressurized air system ensures that every flush is powerful, and highly efficient in terms of water usage. Since these new toilets work off compressed air, one is able to adjust the amount of water used for each flush, by adding a bit more or less air and water per flush. In addition, the newer flush system was created to improve drain carry and reduce sewer stoppages.

In conclusion, look for a high efficiency dual or single flush toilet, for a new or preexisting bathroom install. They are easier to install, are less troublesome than older toilets and can save you money on water usage bills.
