It's like a mountain bike course which has been recast in the green. But what can a golfer do with them? It's the same question which few hackers would ask themselves when they will face the down eighth hole on the PB Dye's latest Playa Paraiso Golf Club.
The dye's design of the course permits you to build some confidence in your swings quite early. The first hole on the course is wide-open par 4, a second one is 155 yard par 3 which needs a clear above the brush area which is actually a fine sand than you will normally find on the sea beaches nearby. You can easily get through the initial six holes without much damage to the score.
It appears that Dye never wanted to rattle anyone till No 7. From here a five hole stretch begins which confirms that he is a worthy PB Dye, an architectural genius. The No 7's green has a capability to give a person a permanent vertigo case. This monster which is three tiered has large number of crests and drops which makes a person hesitant to navigate through it. It may not help that at the 547 yard end, there is a par 5 which plays straight in the wind. After that, its on to further No 8's.
At No 10 a single tree is completely bent on the rests in waste sandy area which is just right to the tee.
On the hole No 9 you will see a pyramid dedicated to Iberostar Paraiso Maya Resort. You could have easily seen ocean from here but they'd built this pyramid and have blocked the view. Dye has successfully incorporated these open caverns into his course to make them good obstacles on some holes.
When you reach No 14 you my just shoot blindly about the bend on to the silver of fairway.
The Verdict
If you are interested in golfing on the Cancun trip, Palya Paraiso is one such course which will live to its high end fees.
The obstacles at the course are simply superb and striking. At this course the troubles usually lurk in the angles. A missed hit can place you in a steep dip on the short hill or just jammed against the tree.
The course measures 6,641 yards and Dye could not have relied just on the course length to build a challenge. Quite contrary it is a creative shot which makes creative obstacles for you.
