Pregnancy is a time of planning and expectation. Sometimes the days and weeks crawl by as you battle morning sickness and are overwhelmed with impatience. Other times it seems like time flies by and you wonder how you will get everything done in time. Here is a quick list of the things you should consider when planning the arrival of your baby.
* First of all you should calculate your due date. More than likely that was the first thing you did when you found out you were pregnant. Knowing when your baby will be coming home helps you determine the supplies you will need to buy right away. If your baby is due to be born in early winter, you may want to hold off on buying summer outfits until later because your baby will grow fast.
Although you may think you are rushing things, you want to get as many tasks out of the way as possible long before your due date draws near. There is always the chance your baby will come much sooner than you expect, or any other number of unforeseen things could occur, and you don't want to be unprepared.
* During your first trimester you may be tired and nauseated most of the time and not feel like doing anything at all. Don't push yourself. If you are like most women, you will have a surge in energy and well-being during your second trimester and that is the time to really get things done. If you wait until your final trimester, you may be too uncomfortable to spend hours shopping or decorating a nursery.
* Some things you want to schedule early on are your child birth classes, tour of the hospital, and interviews with potential pediatricians. If you have other children you will need to allow them plenty of time to prepare for this big change in their lives and that may take a lot of your time too.
* About a month before your due date, you should make your list of things to take to the hospital and pack them into a bag that you can grab and go with. You will want to bring items for you and also blankets and clothing to bring your baby home in. Plan everything out and think it through while you still have a clear head. If you will need a parking sticker or change for parking at the hospital, have it set aside rather than having to fumble for it when you are stressed out.
* Your doctor can provide you with a general window for expecting your baby, but chances are it will be a surprise. He will use a due date calculator and give you a precise date. While that may give you peace of mind, your baby has a mind of his/her own and will come when he/she wants and it could be early or late.
* A due date calculator is easy to use. You can use one made of paper or one found online. You can also do the math in your head since it is pretty simple. All you have to do is add seven days from the date of your last period and then subtract three months and you will have the exact day your baby should arrive, although he/she may have other plans!
