Pillow Cleaning and Worn Out Pillows

Expert Author Zafer Aktas

Let's say you replaced your mattress and it hasn't even been ten years. Also you replaced your comforter and sheets, but you are still not sleeping well. Use your head, or better yet, look under your head. Your pillows wear out! If you've had your down pillow since you were in college, it may be time to replace your bed pillow Chances are your pillow form is collapsed of not full.

Shop for a down pillow that's hypoallergenic, supportive, and lightweight with a high quality cotton pillow case or cover.

Pillow cleaning

Ever wonder what is keeping you awake? It could be the mites and allergens in your bed pillow. You may regularly clean your down comforter and launder your pillowcases every time you wash the sheets, but your pillow needs to be cleaned at least every six months. Otherwise, you may share your bed with some unwanted guests like:

* Dust mites
* Fleas
* Ticks
* Dead skin
* Mildew
* Mold

You can get rid of these unwelcome house guests. Machine-wash or hand-wash that down pillow or better yet dry clean. This goes for the therapeutic body pillow your doctor recommended. Your down pillow should be cleaned the same way as your down comforter.

Other pillow materials, such as wool or foam, need special care. For example wool pillows can only be dry-cleaned, foam pillows will disintegrate if you do anything other than hand washing. Remember, a good night sleep starts at the head, and if you take care of your pillows you will see the difference.
