The ability to show, or if you like teach others around me how to earn money, an income for themselves, has quite simply always being something I could do.
Possibly because I find the creation of personal wealth so very easy myself, basically, I just tell others how to do it.
During my school days from the age of 10 I could see how to earn whatever sum of money I required and simply did so whenever I wanted anything. After leaving school I was old enough for a motorbike, as this was something I liked at the time, I had several, not just one. Just a year later, of course I was old enough to have my first motor car. All through the days of my motorbikes and early cars, I showed my friends how I earned the money to have all of this. Those who wanted the same followed my lead.
I married when I was 19; a year later got my chance to become a salesman, and grabbed it with both hands. Within a year I was working with one of the biggest product names in the world, after less than 12 months with this company I was top salesman and my sales technique was being demonstrated by the company worldwide. Resulting in me having a new car, no money problems and even cash in the bank.
Never the less, when I was 22 the opportunity presented itself to me to become self employed. Much to the amazement of all I handed my notice in and proceeded to do my own thing. I sure upset a lot of people. By this time I was receiving executive pay with a company established throughout the world, I guess many thought I was mad. The company actually sent representatives to see me on numerous occasions, monitoring my progress in my chosen field, which I must confess was very reassuring knowing I could go back if my operation should fail or let me down. Really I knew this would not happen because I wanted it to work so much I put in the effort a person only can when they are working for themselves. In the days I worked for other people, part of my job had become the training of others; this was something I always enjoyed. As I climbed the ladder, constantly attending more advanced courses and instruction, I simply loved passing this success to others who saw the effect it could have upon their life, simply by being witness to how my whole life was moving upstream.
Within 6 months of being self employed, two noticeable things had taken place. Firstly the business had increased to the extent I had to employ assistants and secondly on a more even more seen front I had purchased a Rolls Royce motor car. A year later I had purchased the whole block of town property which housed four more shops than the one I started with, plus a three story warehouse and three unoccupied houses, which I would later turn into my luxury occasional apartment.
All through this time I was surrounded by people wanting the buzz from me, the inspiration and the motivation. Bank managers, solicitors and accountants on the white collar side. Builders, plumbers and electricians on the blue collar side. Plus everything in between. I was written up and photographed for many leading newspapers and magazines, plus appearances on TV. Many who worked for me or with me in those days became very wealthy people as a result. Had they not met me and shared the buzz, then none would have been inspired and none would have the wealth they have today as a direct result of my teaching, my training, my enthusiasm and application of common sense. Just simply by being myself everywhere I went people used to say to me "I wish I was a pound behind you" The business I started as a small retail shop was now operating both wholesale and retail. The same business now had a specialised auction/sale recognised throughout the world. Then the impossible happened I got bored with it all. Sold the whole thing, bought a huge house and retired, I was exactly 29 years old.
For almost three years I stayed at home with all kinds of craftsman, building and creating my house, with no expense spared in any direction. Having spent three of the number we British think of when we wish to express the sentiment of a lot of money, I was practically broke. I did not want to go out to work. Therefore, I dreamt up ideas that I could operate as a business from the huge 1100 Sq Ft garage I built at home to house my by now three Rolls Royce motor cars. Not only did this business work very well, as a result of meeting a publisher I wrote books about the operation of them, taking up the title of "Mr Salesmanship" as an author. By this time I was approaching 40 years old, I was on my ninth Rolls Royce motor car which carried the registration number REG 1 G which resembles my full name on a number-plate. For me however my best car number was REG 1 which was kept on my favourite car, the Rolls I purchased when I was 22 years old.
The publications I produced for the self-employed together with the business opportunities market was a huge success. They were helped along no end by being the most honest and workable true business opportunities available out there. Further they bore no relation whatsoever to the usual rubbish that litters this much understood heading, where on so many occasions it is only information that is being sold and not a workable business handling a finished product. I contented myself showing proper people, proper businesses, bought myself a convertible Rolls Royce and started to do live seminars, whereby people could come and meet me once more, to be motivated towards their own success. These seminars quite obviously were called "Meet Mr Salesmanship". Once again I had started to show others how to earn better, live better and how to recognise themselves for who they could be.
At this time in my life I was no stranger to compliments, I had received quite literally thousands of them from students of my books, seminars and many varying classes. The most welcome thing about receiving so many individual praises is that more than anything else it shows me that I am doing the job I set for myself correctly and achieving that which I set out to do. It is only a secondary thought that I am able to use these compliments as testimonials for the benefit of others to enjoy the same rate of education.
I was just on the brink of becoming 50 years old when I met a lady by the name of Madeleine Warren, a highly skilled nurse and a drama therapist with more letters behind her name than it takes to spell mine. I met her as a result of a project she was in charge of which was not working very well. The problem was of a sales and motivation nature, which I solved for the lady quite easily. I was totally unaware at the time of further problems I would solve for her over the coming weeks. I was also completely unaware of the study she was making of me and of my methods. Visiting her office by appointment one morning, unknown to me at the time, quite a number of professional people were present, and as I walked into the room she announced me to all of them by name and as someone who had taught her more about human motivation and its consequences in three weeks than she had learnt in all her schooling and college time previously. This was my most meaningful testimonial of all, because it was for my part private, since then I have received praise for my beliefs (because that it is how I see my subject) from all kinds of professionals, including doctors, clergy and yes even Members of Parliament.
Still, all in all, there's really nothing as straightforward as the understanding of motivation. If a person looks at it, as we do food, when we are hungry enough, we will eat or die. The length and the depth humanity will go to under such extremes is legend. We only have to apply a small part of this same determination in this life to be anything you want to be. An example here would quite simply be love, the motivator and common denominator of all creation.
As I seem to have wandered a little from the main text, I could probably outline at this point how much I love to play Santa Claus, not only at Christmas but through the rest of the year also. I have done this for my friends and family now since Kennedy was President of America, or if you like England won the World Cup - a long time whichever you look at it. I could be Father Christmas to you - do you think you could write me your Christmas list as you did as a child for Santa, because if you could we are up and running. If you cannot, well then you’re lost. How can Santa do anything without a list? So here then is the best offer you are ever going to get. Write me a list of your requirements, your dreams, and your wants. Address the completed list to Santa Claus at Knoll House Interforum. When I receive it I will respond to show you how you have taken your first step towards acquiring the items listed. In fact your reply will contain all the magic you should remember from a time when you truly believed in Santa, that belief which made everything worthwhile.
Through the years I have been many things to many people, as my self-employed career has moved me from business to business. All of which I have enjoyed. I spent a number of years in my 20's as an auctioneer which was a tremendous challenge and a very profitable one. Quite literally I earned the full outright price of a new Jaguar motor car every time I took to the rostrum. More than the money, the thrill was working with so many people in front of me. The "Mr Salesmanship" days 20 years later was very similar in working with people, just a nicer buzz, as so many were helped achieve so much themselves. In my mid-30's I established the Oil Painting business which created more than 1200 successful self-employed people throughout the British Isles. All of this of course was in the days before the world-wide web as we know it today. Over the years I continued this and received all kinds of thank you's. Some by letter, some by gifts to my family and all from people who would have been going nowhere if they had not found me, by the luck of looking in the right place at the right time. As I write this text I am now 63 years old. My three sons, some of my past students, friends and other relatives seem to think that I have a certain magic about me that should not be lost. They feel I have a skill that should be recorded for others. I find this to be a huge compliment. So with my son Stephen at the helm now, together with the blessing of modern technology, operating as Knoll House Interforum - but still under the banner of "Mr Salesmanship" - for one last time, I will show people like you how tomorrow can be a new day. The only difference being that this time much of my work can be filmed and recorded more precisely than before.
As far back as history recalls, higher rank calls for higher pay, this is possibly the oldest fact of mankind. It does not matter when in time we apply this principle, it is accepted. With the military it is simply more obvious, even to the extent of decorating uniforms, together with even more addition of personal siblings and trappings. Civilian life is exactly the same, just not as blatant, instead of the gold braid we recognise the Rolex as opposed to the Timex, the detached or the semi-detached. Recognising the difference is called realisation, wanting to take part is desire, and the vehicle to take you to the destination is motivation. All of this I find so very obvious, yet less than one tenth of one percent of the population on this planet will ever come to realise any of this, even in small part. The masses will continue to be the masses, the retail customers who pay the full price and provide all below them, or above them, depending only upon your outlook, with a trade, a service, or even a reason to exist.
In closing this script I must say that in more than half a century that I have been taking notice, there is still only two kinds of people in this world. Those busy going somewhere and those busy going nowhere. Providing that either can tell me what and when they would like to do it. If either should look around them and see the "light". One famous man once said he had a dream, that's not important. When you can have the dream, when you can set a goal, when you can desire, want to be there, then "Mr Salesmanship" can be "the man" who can show you how to make it all happen. Your turn only comes when you say so.
Thank you all for being you - come and see me when you are ready to become the new you - tomorrow.
