The phrase permanent hair removal is more of a misnomer as the results would last for at most a year or a little beyond that. Electrolysis hair removal and Laser hair remover methods are by far the most effective.
Facts: Electrolysis hair removal is a method being used for quite some time now (over 135 years) and has proven to be the most effective way to get rid of hair for long term. In fact, some customers have even seen permanent hair removal using this method. Laser hair remover products on the other hand are a more recent solution with not much evidential customer data supporting its effectiveness.
* Electrolysis is much cheaper and widely used/accepted compared to Laser hair removal.
* Electrolysis is effective for all hair colors unlike lasers which are best suited for dark haired/light skinned customers.
* Electrolysis can be painful, tedious procedure and difficult to apply for large areas of the body. If this procedure is not done correctly, it can lead to skin infections, marks on the skin and/or partial results.
* Lasers with varying wavelengths of energy are used based on the hair color, skin color & skin type of customer. If performed properly, long lasting results can be achieved. Some customers have shown positive response to laser treatments with long term results. According to Mayo clinic, laser treatments can reduce hair anywhere from 20 ~ 90%.
* Lasers can be used on larger surface areas and if regrowth does occur after a period of time, it's seen to be in light in color and very fine in texture.
Density of hair growth varies from person to person and is also based on the demographics. For people with sparse hair growth on their body, waxing or shaving can be considered good alternatives to costlier/more intrusive permanent hair removal solutions.
There are tons of products/methods out there claiming to offer permanent solutions. The fact is, even with these solutions, results tend to fade with time and hair may start reappearing after a year or little beyond. So, even with Epilation we probably won't get everlasting results. I guess most folks would be happy enough not to see hair reappearing for at least one whole year and wouldn't mind visiting the clinic once a year! But, that an individual choice you have to make. As it stands, there's no ONE perfect solution to permanent hair removal.
