If they are living alone, they might not have the time to clean the house thoroughly and in this case, you should offer to clean the windows, dust any rugs they have and at times, vacuum the entire house to ensure that they are living in a perfectly healthy environment.
Elderly neighbors might not have the strength to ensure that they place the right measures into place to safeguard their interests. This is especially true during thunderstorms and snowy seasons. This could be a safety hazard for them and for this reason, you should clear the driveway and walkway to ensure that they do not slip and fall when using the same. During bad stormy nights, the power might go off and as such, you should see to it that the problem is rectified immediately to ensure that they do not remain in the dark for long durations. In addition to this, during the hot seasons, it is important to confirm that they have placed the right measures in place to increase comfort.
In essence, though you might have a busy schedule, it is important to note that these elderly neighbors need your help more than they would be willing to accept. Opting to offer your help will eat into your time and though there are people who might consider it as an inconvenience, as stated earlier, it depicts your character and shows that you have a high sense of responsibility. By making sure that their safety is guaranteed, you will be carrying out the greatest sense of community service. What is more, you will also instill a sense of responsibility in your children and make them better citizens by directing them to help too.
