Paint Fun

The virtual world is developing to encompass the real one. Virtual gaming is one such way. Today gaming modules are evolving to include the player in many more ways. Games are now available with jackets and helmets that simulate the feel of being in live combat. These jackets and helmets use puffs of air to create the impact of being shot at. Some consoles use a wireless joystick that can be used as a variety of objects like a tennis racquet, a baseball bat, etc. Paintball is a real world game that a lot of gamers enjoy.

Paintball was invented in the 1980's and has gained popularity as time passed. The game of paintball involves two or more players divided into competing teams. The game is very much like real combat except for the ammunition used. Paintball guns fire capsules of paint that explode on impact. Different teams use different colors. The rules are pretty much like Capture the Flag. A team needs to eliminate all the members of the opposing team to win. Paintball can be played in a variety of environments. Natural and artificial features are used to simulate combat terrain and provide tactical points. A game can last for anywhere between a few minutes to days depending on the scenario.

Paintball tournaments are now held in various parts of the world. Participants are expected to follow a code of conduct. This code of conduct is enforced by referees that accompany the teams. The referees regulate play and call out the 'dead' players. The rules are generally the same all over the world and follow the protocol used to conduct professional tournaments. Artificial terrain is being used more now-a-days. Artificial terrain is easy to install and can be used in a number of different combinations. This saves time and money involved in reshaping the earth.

The military are now actively using paintball as a combat training tool. The paintball guns used by the military are designed to imitate real weapons. Paintball is used in war games because it is a better way of marking targets that have been neutralized. Previously it was up to the referees to decide the damage and deaths. This was often disputed. With paintball the area of impact on the target is clearly highlighted making it easy to assess damage. There has been criticism that paintball promotes violence among children and so measures have been taken to de-emphasize this.
