Doing it manually can be very tedious at best, and can be even futile because you still have to test out the company first. By getting membership to sites that compile a list of such companies, it saves you time and your sanity by not having to find the good ones by trial and error. On average, each paid survey company has around 300 to 400 survey companies listed, complete with details and are available through online services which you would read about later.
There will be some questions you'll need to answer first normally when signing up for a good survey company. Generally these are profile questions they use to capture information like your age, gender, interests, products you have or will use etc. Don't be alarmed, as this is normal. Good survey companies will never reveal your information to outsiders. After you've signed up, at that point you would receive emails inviting you to participate in taking surveys. It would be a good idea to create a free email account, so as to not get this mixed up with your personal emails.
