PageRank (also known as PR) is a term coined by Google, and according to them, it is a metric that measures how "important" a particular page is. It has a scale of 1 to 9.

In this article, I'll be sharing with you more about what this PageRank is all about, and how you can work on getting a higher PR for your website.

Before I begin, there's something I would like to clarify, and that is, your website's ranking in the search engines has no relation to its PR. Your website will be ranked well in the search engines if the contents is relevant to what users are searching for. However, that does not mean that your website has a high PR. Similarly, even if your site has got a high PR, it does not mean that all the pages will be ranked well in the search engines.

On tip to share on how you can get a higher PR for your site - You site must be linked in high PR sites - In layman terms, this means to say that if your site has a link in a high PR site (for example - in CNN.com), when Google spiders "crawls" in CNN's website and finds your websites' link there, it will associate your site with CNN's site. And since the Google spiders highly regard CNN's site, any sites associated with CNN's site will be highly regarded as well.

If your sites are linked with.gov and.edu sites, it will be highly regarded as well, and this helps to increase its PR.

Before I end, one thing I'll like you to take note here - And that is, sites you link to must have content that's relevant to yours. For example, if your site is about dog training, even if it is linked with a high PR site on how you can learn to play a guitar like a pro, it will not help to increase your site's PR.
