One of the greatest joys of owning a horse and stable at your home is that you can ride anytime you feel like it. You don't have to commute to the stable each day. Just walk right out your back door and down to the barn, saddle up and you're ready to go.

With home horse keeping you don't have to rely on others for your horse care, unless you opt to pay someone to so your horse stable chores. You are in full control of the level of horse care your horse gets on a daily basis.

Another advantage to owning a horse and stable at your home is there is the possibility of having lower monthly expenses if you already have the land, a suitable horse barn, pastures & riding arena.

If you plan on keeping your horse at home it is very important to make sure you have the space and facilities I just mentioned. I many suburban areas, local zoning ordinances apply and you must the minimum requirements for owning a horse and barn. You may very well find restrictions in your deed concerning horse facilities and horse care. You will want to read over them thoroughly and fully comply with the laws.

Ideally horses should be in the most natural environment as possible. They should have large areas to roam freely. Most suburban areas require you have at least 2 acres per horse, though this may vary in certain counties and cities. They should also have an abundance of grass and fresh water.

Before owning a horse and stable you should be very well organized and have things planned to save you time labor and money. There are many products now days that can make life much easier. For instance, instead of having a barn built you can purchase a modular barn. This is great because if you ever decide to move you can take it with you.

You can also install automatic water fountains in your barn this saves on the labor of having to refill water buckets everyday. You just need to clean them every so often and make sure they aren't leaking. They also have automatic hay and grain feeders, a lil pricey but it will save you time and money from having to hire someone else to do it.

All you have to do is load the hay or grain in and set the timing on the feeders and they will automatically drop the hay or grain for your horse, though I strongly suggest that you still check on your horses during feeding time. These are just some examples of how you can save time and money when owning a horse and stable at your home. You'll spend some money up front but save in the long run.
