The first thing that most people do when they get started in a home business is make a list of people they know and contact them to recruit them into their business. Often times this is a huge rookie mistake and will cost you dearly. The problem in doing this is that you're "pitching your deal" to people that never asked for it in the first place. How many of us like sales and sale people? Not many! This is because sales people try and sell you on their product. They tell how great it is and how it can benefit you. Sound familiar with your business opportunity pitch? The bottom line is that if someone didn't ask you for information or come to you to buy something then you are put in a sales position where you have to push your product or opportunity onto others. By in large this is why many people get discouraged by home business or network marketing businesses. They feel uncomfortable because they have to sell.
Have you ever noticed that the most successful people often don't have to advertise and they don't have to pitch products yet they are wildly successful and they attract the right kinds of people to them? This is because they own their own content and they have a perceived value in the eyes of their customers and business partners. They go far above the competition and become the best teachers and solution providers for their customers. When you do this well and provide value to your customers and partners you become a trustworthy source and when you are in business, people only like to interact and buy from people that they know, like and trust.
The desperate sales rep is the one that goes for the initial sale and therefore never gets any word of mouth referrals. This is a huge mistake that has been the normal way to conduct sales in the "old school model." Times have changed and those that practice the "new school model" will reap the rewards and the referrals in the end. This new school model is based on servant leadership by providing valuable and helpful information to your prospective buyers. When you own your content and provide it to help and teach people they will post it on their blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and on many other social networks. All of a sudden you become the go to person for information because of the content you are providing and not the pushy sales pitch that people hate.
I hope this helps you on your journey to success.
