Skepticism Turns To Discovery
Outliers is the first Malcolm Gladwell book I've read and I must admit I was somewhat skeptical about the book when I first started reading it. But that skepticism soon turned to a sense of wonder and discovery. That may sound a bit "over the top" but I truly believe this is an eye opening book that should be read by as many people as possible.
Important
I think it's important that people read this book. Why? Because it's not just a book that explains why successful people succeed, it's also a book whose theories could be used to improve our society so that it gives greater opportunity to a greater number of people. Perhaps most importantly, I believe the theories in this book could be used to significantly improve public education in the United States.
Focuses On Reality & Not Political Correctness
One of the things I really enjoy about the book is that it takes a look at the successes and failures of different cultures in a very honest and straightforward way without succumbing to the dumbing down influence of political correctness. It's OK to talk about the fact that Asian people perform better in mathematics than do people of Europe and North America. By understanding why Asian peoples perform better in mathematics, people in the Americas & Europe can learn how to improve their own children's abilities in mathematics. In this book you will find there is an explanation and it has nothing to do with an innate ability at mathematics or a higher IQ.
Truly Fascinating
I read this book very quickly because I couldn't help myself. I had to know what the next nugget of surprising information would be. That's what this book is filled with. Surprising knowledge that may go against the grain of "common sense" (as truly breakthrough information usually does.) And very importantly to an analytical thinker like myself, this book isn't just filled with hypothetical theories. It contains many facts & figures which back up the theories in an irrefutable away.
