Orthotics are orthopedic devices designed to treat various mechanical foot disorders.

Orthotics are heel cups or full insoles for shoes that are custom tailored devices designed to meet the needs of individuals who have had persistent problems with their feet.

At some time in your life most people will experience a foot problem. If you have had foot problems in the past then chances are you have already experienced the impact foot pain can have on your quality of life. If your feet hurt, then it seems like your whole body hurts.

While we all know it is important to stay active, what do we do if our feet hurt? Understanding our feet and knowing how to treat and prevent foot problems is vital to our longevity and overall health.

The best treatment and prevention for foot related problems is a combination of stretching, weight control and appropriate footwear.

Weight is a significant factor in foot problems and, unfortunately, the less you exercise due to foot pain the more difficult it is to control your weight.

Stretching also helps by toning the muscles and tendons in the back of your legs that have attachments in the foot, this is especially important for people who are suffering from plantar fascitis or heel pain.

Orthotics are known to help and relieve Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, heel pain, arch pain, stress fractures and runner's knee.

The average cost of customized orthotics varies between $375 and $450. Over the counter orthotics varies between $10 and $50.

It is important that you check with your podiatrist before purchasing an orthotic. Because there are so many different types of orthotics, it is important to purchase the correct one for your particular problem. You do not want to purchase an orthotic that is not the correct fit for your medical needs.

If you do have persistent foot pain, it is best to consult your physician or podiatrist for treatment. Despite what many people think, it is not normal for your feet to hurt.

If you require custom orthotics you will begin by making an impression of the foot which is also known as a cast. The impressions in the cast duplicate misalignments in the foot or feet.

Specialists in an orthotic laboratory can correct the misalignments with compensation and stabilization techniques. Once the orthotic is complete it will then be placed in your regular shoes to help keep the foot in proper alignment.

Orthotics are beneficial for individuals with persistent foot pain.

Don't delay...get back to enjoying life again! Find relief for your foot pain... orthotics may be your answer!
