Organizing a Local Mastermind Group

Have you ever had a bad day that's only made worse when the rest of your office is in the same funk? Maybe it's a troublesome case, or a malfunctioning computer, but it seems that when you're surrounded by negative people, your own emotions start to follow the same trend.

Luckily for all of us, the same principle applies to success and ambition. When you're around other successful entrepreneurs and see how well they're doing, it inspires you to strive for the same conditions in your own life.Whenever I'm feeling down about work, I take a look at the success of my peers and remind myself that there's no reason I can't be living the happy work life they are.

Organizing a Local Mastermind Group

You don't need to travel hundreds of miles to attend group seminars of successful entrepreneurs to get the benefits of a mastermind group. All you really need to develop a mastermind group in your own backyard is a few good business people, a few hours a month, and a meeting place.

You don't need to get fancy with the meeting place - someone's office, a private room at a local restaurant - anywhere that can be closed off and offer a few hours for open discussion will work. It's common in many casual meetings to have food around, as it entices people to come in the first place, and then stick around for the duration (especially if you hint at dessert later).

Your Mastermind Group Membership

Finding members to join your monthly get together isn't difficult, just look to other local professionals that you admire. You shouldn't be looking for anyone who isn't currently as successful as you. In fact, you should really be looking for those professionals who are doing even BETTER than you. Apparently, they're doing things you're not and you can learn from them!

Diversity is important in your mastermind group. There's no sense in having nothing but personal injury attorneys around, because you're not going to get any outside perspective. Lawyers aren't the only people that know about legal marketing and the success of a law firm as a business. In fact, I've noticed lawyers make pretty poor businessmen.

Make sure you're including professions from all over the map - industrial, service, retail - you never know where you'll find a good idea! Some of the best legal marketing strategies I've seen other attorneys use came from other professions. Successful entrepreneurs know that business is business no matter what their profession is, and they won't be biased against a great idea.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your successful entrepreneurs, find a meeting place, set aside a few hours a month, and start brainstorming!
