Optimizing For Search Engines Ethically

Expert Author John Derossett

Just like anything else, there are a certain number of people in the world who use unethical methods in order to try to manipulate search results unfairly in their favor. Some might call it a competitive edge, however, all that actually happens is that people end up seeing a bunch of websites that they would otherwise not be interested in because they are typically not sites that they were looking for to begin with.

The programmers work long and hard at trying to provide a quality service to the end user, and when that user ends up getting back results that they weren't looking for, then they end up rightfully disappointed because they were not able to find what it was that they were looking for. The programmers are pro-active in working to weed out these search engine spammers and they work to penalize at the very least, each and everyone they catch at this. There are many techniques that these unethical people use, and here are just a few:

-Doorway pages that are automatically generated by a software program
-Redirects - the search engines see one page while you actually see another
-Keyword stuffing - this is accomplished by loading a bunch of keywords onto a page and then making the text the same color as the page. You don't see it but the search engines do.
-Keywords loaded on pages that have nothing to do with the pages content
-The same content on many pages
-Anything else intended to fool the search engine spiders

You'll certainly get short term results using these techniques, but if you're serious about your online business avoid them like the plague. They'll only get you banned and you'll have to start all over again with a new domain. It's just not worth it.

Properly optimizing your pages for the search engines is not difficult, but it is an ongoing process.
