Online Writing - Are You Doing it Often Enough?

Some people scoff at the idea that you could actually make a good full time living writing for the internet. They look at the prices being offered to write articles for various reasons and think you couldn't possibly make a full time living from it.

But let me tell you that it is possible - and those cheap jobs are just a mere fraction of what is actually available. A lot depends on how you approach your future career as a writer.

The most important aspect of any career as a freelance writer is time. You need to be prepared to put in the time to find the best writing jobs on the internet. If you don't do this you won't get the best ones. And let me tell you, you won't win every job you apply for either.

Some people say they don't have time to search for writing jobs in the first place. But it is always easy to make the time if you want to. It just depends on one thing - how much do you really want that career as a writer?

Back before I finally went full time, I had a dreadful job working in a factory for minimum wage from 7.30am until 5.45pm at night. I was shattered by the time I got home, but I still made time for my writing because I didn't want to be in that factory for the rest of my life. That was my motivation.

I would get up at six and go online for half an hour, looking for writing jobs and checking my emails before going to work. During the day I'd think about ideas for articles and towards the end of my time there when the work started coming in, I'd even write during my lunch hour.

And then in the evening between about 7pm and 10pm I'd go online again, determined to find the jobs that would release me from my work at the factory. Once I started looking it took me just four months to finally get to the stage where I had to leave, otherwise I would be turning down more lucrative writing jobs.

So yes I put the time in, and yes it was hard for a few months. But it was worth it in the long run.

You need to ask yourself if you are putting in enough time to succeed with your writing goals. If you aren't then you shouldn't need to ask why you aren't earning enough money doing it. Put in the hours and the effort to find the best jobs, and you will soon get the rewards you seek.
