Online resources and training programs have become more popular in recent years as the internet becomes a more trusted and convenient way to learn and improve your career. Still, some problems persist in finding credible online training programs. Today, I'm going to run through a few ways to determine whether an online private equity training program is credible or not.
The private equity industry is big money, and because firms offer very high compensation to even entry level employees, many professionals looking to work in the industry will pay large amounts of money to increase their chances of landing a sought-after job. I've found that you generally have to invest some money in advancing your career but some programs will prey on you if you're not careful. So be sure you are getting your money's worth. If you are simply paying for a certificate without receiving any training, materials, video resources, career training or help of any kind, what is the benefit?
Not only is this program that offers no real resources and actual benefits unfairly taking your money but the company is also hurting your career prospects by associating you will a less than reputable program. If an employer were to see your private equity certification on a resume, he would logically research the program if he is not already familiar. If the program does not offer any resources, require any reading or training of participants or require that you complete and pass an exam, then the employer will think the company is not credible and worse, the employer will think that you are not credible.
So be sure that you are getting valuable training and that you must complete a rigorous exam before obtaining the certification. Otherwise you are cheating yourself and maybe cheating your employer with a less than credible qualification. So do your research and make sure that the program is backed by a group or association, has a rigorous exam and training program and makes you put in some work before giving you the certification. You will be better for it and your employer will recognize your work.
