Is it the organ, the hook, the singer, or the video that attracts me to this song. For those who don't know how a simple song can be so powerful, need to review this song. It moves me each and every time I hear it. I read a story where a bunch of guys from Vietnam, where set to get shipped off in Fort Gordon, GA. Someone played this song, a soldier and the whole scene froze. Everyone just sat still and contemplated their fates. A leader rolled up on the scene and asked "Who Played this song?" It was requested from an old style jukebox that was located on the base. No one answered and the entire camp lost their weekend passes. The old G.I. who told this story said it was worth it.
This song is always overlooked by Music Enthusiasts and even most college professors. The sound, the words and even the singer took the time and slowly crafted an unforgettable classic. Even though, it was created a long time ago, it's sound has stood the test of time. I encourage every young musician and songwriter to take a few notes while listening to this song. It's such an elaborate piece of music that it even draws fans from different genres to it. It took me a while to track it down but when I did, I played it over and over. Good music will never get old, it just gets better after time, and the more we mature, the more we can appreciate it.
