Car floor mats come in different categories for different requirements.
Obviously weather plays a big part in the cleanliness and maintenance of the appearance of your vehicle.
The usefulness of mats becomes quite obvious when you have used them. Not only can they be efficient in keeping dirt and grime from getting onto other areas of the flooring but the point that you can just lift them out and shake them free of dirt and grit is a big plus. Most car owners have some sort of car floor mats because most cars come with some already included. Usually these are made from the same carpeting as the main flooring.

Rubber mats come a bit more shaped and usually have a lip to prevent dirt and water getting underneath. It is all kept on the surface which is usually ribbed to provide channels for the dirt and water to sit.
Again these can be lifted out and shaken. If they have been hosed down it is best to let them dry in the outside air naturally. Always look for any cracks or holes, and if you find cracks that go right through you should replace the mats otherwise the water will go right through and defeat the object entirely of having rubber car floor mats.
You can get clear vinyl mats which you can put on top of your existing mats to give a bit of respite regarding wear and tear, plus they are going to be waterproof where the carpet mats are not totally in spite of them having a backing of rubber or plastic.
There is yet another type called the universal absorbent and the name says it all. These are made from polyethylene and come with a fabric cover which means they sop up all water and mud efficiently. They also prolong the life of your regular car floor mats quite well.
Regular vacuuming is a must for keeping your car looking good but the use of car floor mats is a very great help as well as protecting your main carpeting from much wear and tear.
