One Ferret Carrier is Good, Two Are Better

The time has arrived and you have finally made the move to get the ferret that you have been wanting. Of course the first thing you will need to do is create a list of items that you will need to care you're your new pet. There are some common items people remember to put on their list, such as leashes, collars, food and water dishes along with toys. But many people don't include one of the most important items, the ferret carrier.

Perhaps you feel because you don't plan on traveling with your ferret, that you won't need one. But there will be times when you need to go to the vet, or possibly leave them in the care of someone else if you need to go out of town. In these instances you will find it essential to have a carrier. But say you want to bring your ferret along with you on vacation, then you will need a carrier to travel with and in some cases have two ferret carriers' works out better in the long run when compared to having only one.

The Reason for Two Ferret Carriers

For shorter trips you will likely want a soft sided ferret carrier that has a shoulder strap on it. This will also come in use for going to the park or to take your pet over to a friend's house. The softer versions of a carrier have a pocket for snacks, water and leashes as well. In addition you will also appreciate that your ferret can look out the windows and breathe thanks to the ventilation and light these windows offer. They are light weight and are relatively easy to carry as well. For longer trips you will want to have a hard sided pet carrier. These work out better for times when you are away from home and need to leave him inside of it with litter, food and of course water.

The Proper Time and Way to Use a Ferret Cage

Whenever you leave your home you should have your ferret inside their pet carrier. Even during something as simple as walking around the block you could run into another person with an animal that could hurt your pet. This gives your ferret a safe place to travel and one that will work for you as well.

When you are in your car your ferret must be in a carrier. Since they are curious little creatures with the ability to crawl in small spaces it can difficult to keep them in one place while you are driving. If they are allowed to roam free in a car, it might results in a life threatening injury, so it is best to keep them in a carrier on the car floor to maintain safety.

During a lengthy trip, a hard plastic or fiberglass pet carrier will provide you with enough room to bring a food dish, litter pan and some of their favorite toys along with a little sleeping blanket. Before you go on the trip, allow your pet to get used to the carrier at your home. You can start with a 5 minute interval and work to a longer period of time so he is comfortable with the travel time that is associated with the trip.

When you are going a long distance, make sure you take a few moments from time to time to let him get out and roam on his leash. It is also important to remember that a proper carrier on hand will protect him from harm as well.
