Many of the women who return to school are older and more likely to be financially independent and single. As a rule they do not even apply for scholarship money, mostly because they do not think they will qualify due to their age. Most who check will happily find they qualify for one or more scholarship programs and can be financially assisted when they attend.

Another group of women who can qualify is older moms with school age children. These moms, who have struggled to get by and raise their kids while working menial jobs, can return to school and improve on their education, then find a satisfying job that pays much more.

The Scholarships for Moms Program is aimed at working mothers who wish to attend school. There is no age limit placed on those who wish to return to school. Many mothers in their thirties and forties are choosing college and even though they may not require child care assistance any longer, they definitely need help with their own schooling expenses. Raising pre teen and teen age children is expensive and many mothers, by this age, realize how much they missed out on by not completing their education when they were younger.

The US Census Bureau says that over eighty percent of the single moms who work are lacking in the education they need to better themselves in life. Only some sixteen percent have at least a basic degree of some sort, and a mere twenty two percent are found to be earning more than thirty thousand dollars per year. Now add on some higher education, such as an associates up to a bachelors degree and their annual pay check can be raised by anywhere from sixty five hundred dollars per year to over nineteen thousand dollars every year.

Older moms make the best students because they may appreciate the attention bestowed on them for a change. They also realize how vital a degree can be to them and their family.
