If you have ever tried to work on your oil burner to get it working, you know how difficult and frustrating that can be. I can totally feel for you and your feeling that you just want to take the thing out, find the biggest hammer you have and use it on the burner.
Servicing an oil burner can be one of the most humbling experiences of life. You have had success with many for quite a long time and then you get smacked down to size by this piece of equipment that just will not respond to anything that you try to do to fix it.
You have changed the nozzle and that worked for a bit. Then poof you get nothing. You checked the transformer and it throws sparks like the fourth of July. The relay seems to function great the coupling has been checked and is in great shape. The motor starts and stops like it should every time you are there. Maybe you even have a combustion analyzer and it is showing that the flame is burner great. So what do you do know?
You could pull up a chair and get a book and monitor the thing yourself. Or you could hire someone to hookup a monitor to the burner that will record what did not work properly when it fails to light. The problem with oil burners is that sometimes a part will just fail intermittently. This can drive even the best technician nuts sometimes. Anyone hates to just be a parts changer, but it is very hard to find that source of the problem in some situations.
Just remember that if you are in the situation of not being able to figure out the exact cause of the problem with your oil burner, you are not alone! I have fixed hundreds in minutes and a few in days! I have left many a burner whistling a happy tune, only to be called a few hours later that it was on the blink again. Grrrrr!
