Offering Sympathy to a Man, is a Gift Basket Appropriate?

When it comes to sympathizing with a man who is experiencing a great lost, it will do good to understand how men grieve. In our culture men are taught that crying is okay for women but not really as acceptable for men. Its okay for a man to shed tears, however, people are sometimes unsure of how to handle it. It can leave a man feeling isolated and rejected if others stay away because they are unsure how to help him.

You will find that people can overlook a mans grief because he may not show emotion. Men have a way of dealing with grief that can manifest itself differently than that of a woman. They may become more solitude in order to deal with their grief. Men may take on a big project that helps them to connect their loss with their pain. They may try to find a purpose and make a difference in the world instead of looking at the past. The man may find peace and comfort in caring for those that are left behind. How ever that man deals with his grief, he will still need support.

Accept him for who he is. Remember even if you don't see outward signs of grief, he is still grieving. Offer your support. Be willing to listen if he wants to talk. Lend a hand if it's a project he wishes to work on. Having a friend around can help to pass the time and may allow him to open up. If he wants to be alone, respect it. Continue to call, invite and befriend him but be willing to let him grieve how he has chosen to. Sending a card letting him know you are there and offering your assistance is great. Giving a gift basket of food from Planet Gift Baskets, along with practical items will be comforting. Putting photos of his loved one in a frame and delivering it personally is a great way to show you care. Offering your ear to listen, will show him he has friends.
