Obama's Loan Modification Program - Has it Assisted Those in Need As Was Expected?

Expert Author Alyssa Scott

President Barrack Obama told the United States of his new loan modification program right after being inaugurated into office. He named it the Making Home Affordable Bill. His idea was to give assistance to around 4 million stressed out homeowners within the U.S. who had fallen on hard times. This bill was also created to assist the real estate market out of its slump along with the rest of the United States economy. The question today is...has it assisted those in need as much as it was thought to?

The United States government has reported that more than 1 million American homeowners have lowered their monthly mortgage payment by more than $500.00 every month from one of the available loan modification programs. This is on top of the more than 4 million American homeowners who have been assisted by the M.H.A. refinance program.

In figuring out the increase or reduction of a home's equity, the year is split into quarters. Quarters two, three, and four showed a rise in the mean American home's equity of more than $12,000.00. In addition to this, the interest rates are at an all time low. There has been a positive influence on the buying and selling of homes as well.

The main target area of interest now is for the Administration to assist those American homeowners who have seen negative impact from the economy's mudslide. The Hardest Hit Fund, also known as the H.F.A. was made public on February 9th of this year. This program was created to provide monetary means to financial agencies who deal in housing finance. This was said to assist help build more creative programs in their area to assist in lowering the amount of foreclosures.

Even with all the hype of these programs, many financial institutions were very slow on the draw to start handing out these loan modifications. Many reasons were given for them being hesitant. One of the biggest reasons was the lack of workers to implement these programs. As soon as the program was made public, homeowners swarmed to apply for them. This went way above and beyond what was thought to happen. It was a huge feat to even have the chance of getting hold of a loss mitigation specialist as they were so busy. Lately, this have been remedied to a point since the huge response has started to slow down since many of the initial homeowners have been taken care of and are no longer within the huge line of Americans looking to apply to save their homes.

President Barrack Obama and the rest of his Administration are very happy with the mean results of these programs for loan modification. Of course, there is always room for improvement.
