Nostalgia items are simply vintage materials. They could be just about everything from furniture to cars to lighting fixtures. I am going to talk about high end lighting with a touch of nostalgia. It's like going on a trip down memory lane. 

It depends on you what era you want your lights to be. This could be as early as the Victorian era, the 30's, 50's or the 70's. Always keep in mind to consider first the style of your house. If your house is contemporary, then your furniture as well as your lighting fixtures should also be modern unless you would want your home to look awkward.

I am not an architect or an interior designer so I cannot recommend what nostalgic lights go best with contemporary homes. Consult a professional for best advice.

Try an accent lamp with picturesque images of fishermen in the wilderness, fused onto glass panels that are framed in brass on this charming shade. The shade is paired with a coordinating accent lamp base. 

If you have a historical style of house, the best lighting fixtures would be materials made out of glass, metal or brass. An example would be a honeycomb patterned clear etched bent glass shade, handcrafted in the USA. It is suspended from inverted pendant hardware finished in bronze. 

If your house design was during the time of gas lighting then you might want to choose lights that mimic the look of a gas lamp. Houses with a look and feel of the late 1800's and early 1900's will look best with a Tiffany style lamps or glass lampshades.

Antique lighting fixtures offer another alternative. These are quite expensive but you can find them at bargain prices on closeout lamps sale. Remember to be careful about the wattage of the bulbs you can use as this can cause a fire. Early antique lights can only accommodate a maximum of 15 watts. Lights made in the 30's are safe with a 40 watt bulb.

The design of the lamp and other lighting fixtures has undergone many different stages. It's about time we look back on some of the old style lamps with much love and a touch of nostalgia.
