New French Diet and Why the French Stay Skinny

If you have ever wondered how the French stay so thin, check out this article.

Croissants, smoking, wine, chocolate - these are the things always associated with the French. Buttery rich foods and yet they don't have the obesity problems that the United States does. What is the French diet secret?

There are a few ideas that I suggest about why the French stay thin while their American counterparts as a whole get fatter and less healthy.

First, and perhaps most out of the American public's control is the food available to Americans. If you've ever seen the film, "Food, Inc." you learn that the food system in the United States is a flawed one. Chickens and cows are overfed and pumped with hormones and foods that they are not naturally inclined to eat simply so that the food industry can produce more food, and faster.

Bigger chickens with larger breasts and cows with the highest fat content in the shortest amount of time possible, is the goal.  The diet of these higher fat and hormone-laden foods doesn't help the waistline. The food produced in the US is generally not organic, is filled with chemicals, synthetics, pesticides, hormones and other things that make people fat and aren't properly digested by the human body.

In France and most countries around the world, they don't have this problem. Most of the food grown is organic and natural and not filled with added hormones, pesticides and synthetic or genetically modified ingredients. The absence of these ingredients helps the French stay skinny.

Second, portion control is something to consider. Although French people may eat croissants and wine and cheese and chocolate - they are not eating the amount or size of portion that their American counterparts generally consume. The difference in size between a croissant in France and one at the grocery store or bakery in the United States is quite different. The French generally are known to avoid snacking but enjoy their food thoroughly during meal times. They aren't on a diet, they simply eat good, quality, rich food during their meals and don't eat fake bars and empty calories throughout the day. This diet along with some physical activity alone can be great for both health and physique.

However, not all French people are naturally inclined to eat small portions and many don't wake up thin and stay skinny for life. Whether it be age catching up, or something else - many French people want to lose weight too. The best kept French diet secret was developed about three decades ago by a French doctor, Pierre Dukan.

The Dukan Diet as it is known has been a sensation in France for years. With millions of people successfully losing weight and keeping it off with the Dukan Diet, it finally has created a stir in the UK and is also starting to gain popularity in the United States. Dr. Dukan has created a diet that helps you lose weight fast and while eating tasty real food and perhaps most importantly, he has made the plan comprehensive so dieters can keep the weight off with a lifelong plan. Being French, Pierre Dukan felt that enjoying food was still key so he has incorporated really delicious food that is healthy and pleasurable into his method.

In summary, trying to eat organic, local food and avoiding processed, fake food is one way to be more like the French. Another way to stick to a French diet is portion control and not snacking throughout the day. Finally, if you really have some weight to lose, try the diet sensation straight from France, the Dukan Diet for a popular way to lose weight and keep it off.
