You can have what you think is a great product and might work far better than anything else on the market but if you are not communicating that it's better, than your competition will beat you every time. People get too caught up in their product (although you still want to be selling a great product). The key to be effective is how are your marketing your product or service? The majority of people, well actually about 95% of them that joint a network marketing or MLM business think that they are in the business of just sharing their opportunity and product with others and they don't admit they are in sales. This is insane and has been taught and passed down from each upline distributor for years so it gets passed on to this present day. If you are involved in a network marketing business opportunity then you are in sales.
Why do people cringe when they hear the word sales or salesman? People in sales have been stereotyped because of poor sales skills and they are pushy, overbearing, full of hype, fake, make promises they can't keep, call too often and chase people that are truly not interested. Some practically have stalker like similarities. The general public's opinion has been formed in a negative fashion over years of sales abuse. No wonder, I personally don't like sales either. So there seems to be a problem then if you don't want to "sell" or feel that you can't sell but want to be successful. What do you do?
This brings us back to the point I made earlier. It's not about your product or your opportunity but it's all about marketing yourself and positioning yourself as an expert. You must get well versed in marketing to sell anything. If you can become good at marketing then sales will start to happen for you no matter what you are selling. People will start to come to you when you become effective. So if you want to market your product or services then your must utilize and assemble your army which includes but is not limited to: email, direct mail, classifieds, magazines, banner ads, post cards, flyers, car signage, business cards, pay per click, search engine optimization (SEO), CDs, DVDs, and the list goes on and on.
When you do this enough with well thought out ads you are combining marketing and sales together and the inner salesman comes out in you through your ads. Simple, brilliant and it works. Some people reading this are thinking well that is how most large companies do this in the real world anyway. Yes, I agree but most people that get involved in a network marketing or MLM business don't do this effectively or they don't do it at all. They have been taught to just sit down with people and share their deal with them. The majority of network marketers are your average everyday working people that don't have any experience in sales and marketing so when they get into the business they try and apply what they think they should do to be successful and worse yet their upline is trying to teach them how to do it. It starts to snowball and here we are today with the majority of people still clueless in how to be effective and build their business. Remember, you need an effective marketing system and when you have this the sky is the limit on your success.
