If you are half as busy as I am then you are probably trying to figure out how you can squeeze even a few minutes a day in for exercise. I know I should exercise, I know it will be good for me and my health, yet where do I find the time to do it? At the end of the day it is not impossible to make the time. It's all a matter of priorities and what you deem to be important. You do what is important to you at the time. And if you do not exercise the reality is that it just flat out is not important enough for you to do so.
If you have an illness or some accident where exercise is mandatory or you will die, then you will make the time, simple as that. It seems to me that many of us are riding the gravy train thinking that those things will never happen to us. But as we get older things do creep up, and if we are not prepared we will suffer the consequences.
Perhaps one area of confusion is what we mean by exercise. If you think you need to go to the gym, or have expensive machines at home you are mistaken. That is not necessary in order to get in some good healthy exercise. Think about your life and the things you do on a daily or weekly basis.
Here are some examples of things you can do while you are doing your normal tasks:
• How about squeezing your abs while waiting in a line at the store?
• Can you get up out of your chair every half hour or so to walk around for a few minutes?
• You could do some squats every other hour.
• Try never taking the elevator and always walking up the stairs.
• While driving, or on your computer you could be doing some deep breathing.
If you do these things you will be helping your metabolism, and having a good metabolism is key for maintaining a healthy weight. If you are creative you will find pockets of time throughout your day where you can squeeze in a few minutes here and there to get some type of exercise. You won't be running any marathons, but you will help your body move, and that will help you.
Think about it, then decide to do something about it and start moving - for your great health!
