My Niche Market and How to Find It

Expert Author Elena Rogers

Looking for a niche requires research. I wish I had realized that when I first began. You really must take time to see if there is a market for your niche product. If you skip this phase or take this phase lightly, you will be sorry later. You do want to succeed don't you?

How do you find out if there is a niche market for your product? By asking yourself certain questions.

How many people want the product?

Usually you begin with a field that is broad and then you begin to dig and dig and dig some more until you get specific.e.g. If you chose travel, that is far too broad. So what about Travel to Spain. Still very broad. What about. Travel in Andalusia. That's better. If you chose Eco-holidays in Andalusia, better still.

Have I done a Keyword research?

This is the part that blocks many people. For some reason, it certainly blocked me! I would suggest you take a couple of days to do some research on what you need to do. There is a lot of free information about this. Just search "keyword research" on Google. Then, when you think you have the hang of the idea, you can decide whether you want to invest in a keyword tool or not. However, as I said, there are free keyword tools such as AdWords keyword search.

But whatever you do, don't skip over this and rush on. If you don't get your research right, you can waste a whole lot of time putting up a site, only to find out that your niche is too broad and you have too much competition. I am speaking especially if you are trying to use free marketing strategies, like I do.

Is my niche too broad?

If when using a keyword tool, you looked up the word travel, you would find an enormous number of searches. How many offers are as a solution to that search? Just for interest right now, I looked on Google and there were 99.400.000 sites offering solutions for travel! I think you get the picture. It would be useless offering a product under such a broad term.

Can I find a survey that will help me tighten up my niche?

If you are already selling a product, you may have done a market-survey yourself, but very often, if you check out websites, you can often find results to surveys. You will not generally find them on the front page, but many sites will give this information. They can be very helpful. Of course, if you have done a survey yourself, you can ask your customers to answer precise questions about what they want. Looking at our example before about Eco-Holidays in Andalusia, Spain. You can encourage your potential customers to do a survey by offering one of your products as a prize. Or you could offer a free trip to your Eco-holiday resort in Andalusia, if the customer promises to give you sincere feedback in exchange.

How can I present my product in an original and unique way?

Study the websites of your competition. How could you make your product better, or how could you present your product ( which may even be the same) from a unique angle? This is where you can be creative. If you were selling your Eco-holiday you could create a diary of your last adventure holiday there, or of your last satisfied client who had gone on your holiday offer.

How can I create interest in my product?

One excellent way, is to build a good website and promote it well. There are many ways to do this, but one way is to have a number of informative pages that attract visitors and also the search engines. However, as well as inform and attract, the viewers must be moved to purchase your product. You must know how to get visitors to actually click on your offer. You do not want hundreds of fans reading your fascinating stories and have no one purchase from you!

Get these basic questions answered and you will be well on the way to finding and being successful in your particular niche.
