However, if you would like to get the most of it you need to make some preparation. The earning will mainly depend on the market niche and on the number of visitors. The cost per click (CPC) heavily depends on the market niche. Advertisers bid on particular keywords. In some markets the competition is huge and price for one click can reach 10 dollars or even more. However, when there is no competition the price for click can be only few cents. Of course, you as a publisher don't get this amount. Google as a middle man takes about 32% of this price.

To satisfy the niche and traffic criteria you need to have optimized pages. Search engine optimization or SEO starts with keyword research. This is very important because you need to choose keywords or search phrases that have high search volume, low competition and high cost per click. The aim is to create pages around these keywords and get the pages on the top of search results.

The next optimization technique is to blend the ads with the page content. This means using the same background color as for the text and the same ad text color that is used for the links. This will make ads to appear as part of the page content and they will not stand out as "ordinary ads". Of course, you still have to make a clear distinction between page content and AdSense ads, but by using similar colors you prevent ad blindness which can occur if the ads appear as "ads".
