Do you remember the time you first walked into an arcade and you heard the primal yelling of Raiden or the memorable "Get over here!" exclamation by Scorpion. Those were the days when people were crowded like sardines watching and playing Mortal Kombat. It was one of the first arcade games that looked realistic. It did not use cartoon graphics like many of the other games used.
Furthermore, this game was perhaps the most violent that was ever made. Its sequels continue the legacy of video game violence, and it has sparked a great deal of controversy. The fatalities that occur during the game such as Sub Zero pulling the spine out of someone's body to Scorpion burning an opponent alive have caused parents to shudder. The fact that the graphics look like real people makes the controversy grow even more.
Anyways, I was not the biggest fan of its game play because it always seemed to lag behind. However, I did like the game because it was still innovative and other games that have tried to copy Mortal Kombat have all failed. I remember that after Mortal Kombat's success there was a rash of many ultra violent fighting video games that came out. However, either the graphics, story, or gameplay had left much to be desired. It was as if they rushed the game out so they could grab a piece of the pie for the buzz violent video games had created. It has become a part of pop culture, and I think everyone knows the name Mortal Kombat.
